18820826 - Kicked by a Horse

Cleveland Lakeside Press

Kicked by a Horse

August 26, 1882

Ed. Lakeside Pres.

Norman A., the youngest child of Edw. H. Hoose, aged 7 years, was severely injured by a kick from a horse, Thursday evening about 7 o'clock.  The particulars are: Whit. P. Fosdick was baiting his black stallion on the road side, by Hoose's house, and the little boy started to run across the road to a neighbor's, when the horse kicked out at him and struck the little fellow across the forehead, close by the hair, cutting over two inches in length and fracturing the skull.  Surgeon Whyborn was summoned, and during the operation of dressing and sewing up the wound, he stood it like a hero.  During the night he had several spasms and spell of vomiting; but there is a probability of his getting over his injuries.  Mrs. Hoose, aged 63, grandmother of the lad, was so overcome by the accident that she was seized with a stroke of paralysis, and for a time was seriously ill.
