Gwyn Accident

April 24, 1880

Ed. Lakeside Pres.

A few days ago, while a young son [Alan Gwyn] of Hammond Gwyn, formerly of this place, but now living a mile or two north of Fulton, was cleaning the horse stable, his little sister, 7 years of age, ran up to the door just in time to receive the full blow of the shovel blade across her face, making a fearful gash from the forehead between the eyes and cutting under the nose, severing it fully half off, also dividing the upper lip.  A physician administered chloroform and sewed up the nose and dressed the wound as neatly as possible.
