Hand Engine Repair

January 24, 1880

Ed. Lakeside Pres.

Since the late fires 'Gene Morenus and Eb. Argersinger have been at work resurrecting the old hand engine, that has laid and rusted around Factoryville, with a view of experimenting on it.  They made some alterations and repairs, and finally finished their labors on the machine Tuesday night.  Several of the boys were on hand, including one of our lawyers; and all were anxious to see the thing tested at once; so a supply of water was procured, and the spectators seized hold and vigorously worked the brakes, whiles Morenus held the nozzle of the hose, and a fine stream of water as soon sent 40 feet upward, and showered upon the store building.  Harder and harder the operators pumped the machine, our legal friend louding his aid, and shouting with enthusiasism:  "Give it to her..."  _____ "That's a hell of an engine!"
