    • As an incident of the hard times, Agent Whitney was going along Lake Street last evening with a bag about a quarter full of meal on his shoulder. In passing, he remarked: "When I first moved here, I used to get a bag full; now I can only get this much." And yet Whitney will continue to walk up, as usual, on election day and deposit his vote to continue the poverty of the masses. [4]
    • Albert C. Whitney, RR station agent at this place, met with a severe accident on Monday morning last. The local freight train had some coal cars to place on Getman's switch, and as Whitney had business up in that neighborhood, he volunteered to turn the switch for them. After doing so, he intended getting on the car, but stumbled and fell over on the track, just a few feet ahead of the moving cars. He managed to roll off the track, excepting his left arm, which was caught by the wheel or flange, and fearfully crushed and cut from the wrist to the elbow. He was quickly taken home and Drs. Whyborn and Potter sent for, who after an examination, concluded that there was a change of saving the arm in some shape. Ab. bore the sever injury and operation with remarkable ___. He has suffered greatly, and the whole community sympathizes with him in his misfortune, and hope that he may speedily recover. [5]
    • Agent Whitney will resume his duties at the RR depot Jan. 1st. [6]
    • The slippery sidewalks caused RR Agt. Whitney to fall and hurt his injured arm, Monday. [7]
