    • "In early 1917, 'Del' as my grandfather was known, decided the family should give up the farm life, which had never been easy or profitable, and move to Cleveland, NY on Oneida Lake.

Del convinced Rose that the new place would be spacious and have a beautiful view of the lake. She agreed to move sight unseen and you can imagine her shock, when she arrived to find, what was described as 'a fishing shack not a home'. The family made the best of the situation and created a pleasant home in their new community." [3]
    • According to the 1940 census, the home is owned and valued at $2,000. [5]
